A Vision of Students Today

The video showed facts and thoughts of what people probably think of everyday sitting in class. We are sort of fortunate not to have to sit in seating like in the video. All my classes are small and I know majority of the people in my classes. Depending on the teaching circumstances my teaches may know my name but I don't know for sure unless they call me by my name. I think the video was a little nauseated because of all the fast moving of the camera trying to get to the next sheet of paper. I think they could of some how did the transition to the different people a little better. But all in all the facts were true not all teachers no your know name, you spend all this money on books and may never use them, people with laptops in class are more than likely surfing the internet or talk to friends through IM.  The video basically showed what we think in our minds just don't speak out loud.

It's Not About Technology

Ms. Hines stated technology is useless without good teaching and believe that. You can not teach a student or students without showing or teaching them first about a certain subject. People depend on their laptops, blackberries, social networks but we do not know what the future holds. Sure we can use technology as a gateway but ever teacher teaches in their own way and some do not want to change. The times are changing and more and more people don't have choices on how they want to teach. Most classrooms these days have smart board instead of the old chalkboards and dry erase boards. The smart boards does everything a teacher might need it for but do they rely on it absolutely. So it really isn't about the technology but how we use the technology to show and educate students.

Is It Okay to be a Technologically Illiterate Teacher

The blog posting by Mr. Fisch was dead on. I think teachers need to wake up and stop using the excuse and just embrace the change and learn to use technology in the classroom. It is going to happen whether they like it or not. Majority of my teachers now and in the past at junior college have used computers in some form. Students today can not live without using a computer to do their research for a project. Walking into a library and trying to find information is not used much anymore because you can find everything you need on a some sort of computer.

Gary Hayes Social Media Count

Even though we spend all this time learning how to be a teacher when we get into a classroom the way we are going to teach students is going to change to a new way then what we were taught. Every day and every second people are coming up with new and better ways to do things. They may work for some people others may not like them and just stick to what they know but sooner or later they are going to have to accept the changes and embrace them. The number of people are online everyday grows more and more children are learning about the internet and computers which increases. The number are never going to stop growing so just embrace whatever comes your way.

  1. Leslie,

I think I said almost exactly what you said about 'A Vision of Students Today.' I would have to agree with you about camera; it did make me a bit dizzy when it blurred from one piece of paper to the next quickly.

I also like how you summarized the Social Media Counter. It is sort of scary to see how fast technology is used. It is completely unreal to see it change right in front of your very own eyes.

  2. Hi Leslie,

I agreed with several of your comments on your posts. I think the scary part of technology is not only what a powerful tool it is but how rapidly it is advancing. I like your blog. Keep up the good work!
