The Networked Student

While watching the video I realized this is what the classroom is going to be like. Students are going to rely more on the web and internet than on what they learn in a textbook in a classroom because they can get so much more information through the internet than in a textbook. Be able to communicate with people halfway around the world on a subject they know about is probably better than any boring textbook in a classroom. Also being able to bookmark a website and share with others helps you and gets your more resources through other people. Using networks will help students broaden their outlook on different subjects and may possible connect with people and create friendships and connections for other topics later on.

A 7th Grade Personal Learning Environment or PLN

As future teachers we need to be educated on how classroom and learning is changing because eventually the school systems will probably get rid of textbook all together and the only way to teach student is through the internet, podcast, and social bookmarking. Textbooks these days are so outdated and new information is being discovered everyday that textbooks cannot keep up, so the solution get rid of them and starting using the internet and all the wonderful tools it has that I didn't know existed until now.

The Machine is Changing Us

He covered the topics and spoke about in a way we understand what is going on around us. He talks about how generations change over time and how pop culture is everywhere. People follow fads and they just catch on and take over. The video shows how people don't know what to do in front of a web cam because yes you are talking to someone but in reality you are talking to yourself and then you watch it and realize how uncomfortable it is and a little embarassing to see what you look like talking to yourself. Youtube is apart of pop culture in a big way because someone can do something and it catches on and the next thing you know there are over a million parodies to one youtube video. The video kind of shows what we are thinking in front of a webcam. I enjoyed the video he made the video fun and relatable.

  1. Interesting perspective. You are correct about printed textbooks. Maybe even about all textbooks but I am not sure about that.

I will be posting about The Machine Is Changing Us soon on the class blog.

  2. I completely agree that soon computers will be replacing textbooks. School systems will come to realize how much more up-to-date- and useful the internet could be for the educational environment and use it instead. Textbooks can get torn and outdated, but the internet is constantly evolving. I also agree with your statement about the YouTube videos. People follow other peoples' leads. But we still have that feeling of discomfort not knowing who will be viewing us. I would work a little more on syntax, but aside from that well said.
